Remember Duke Nukem 1 and 2? It was a 2D side scolling game set in an apocalyptic future. It was released in the 90’s, back when fragging aliens and saving the earth was the bane of my existence.
Then came Duke Nukem 3D. The third installment of the game took killing mutant monster death lords to a whole new dimension. Literally. My favorite killing machine Duke Nukem stepped into the third dimension. Much like websites are doing these days.
The creative minds from WHITEVoid have put together a great showcase of what can be done with Flash and Papervision. Papervision renders 3D objects in Flash in real time, which means websites a getting a whole new dimension.
The WHITEVoid site features a light blue void in which tiles of content are displayed within a 3D space. The site has been finished off with some subtle lighting effects and some smooth animation to show content. In it’s simplicity it’s almost perfect, although a little more time could have been spent on the loader and when zooming into content a jump in resolution is quite noticeable. Check out the WHITEVoid site for yourself, it doesn’t kill zombies or anything, but it’s still pretty cool.
